HOW IT WORKS / 03 STEPS

How to Convert FLAC to MP3

01

Choose your FLAC file

Pick the file from your phone or computer. It stays on your device the whole time.

02

Pick the audio bitrate

Select 128, 192, 256, or 320 kbps. Higher settings produce larger files but cannot add detail missing from the source.

03

Play or save the MP3

Listen straight away in the built-in player, then download the MP3 if you want to keep it.

How Does This File Converter Work?

Four bitrate settings

Choose 128, 192, 256, or 320 kbps. MP3 is lossy at every setting and cannot preserve all FLAC data.

Local media processing

The selected media and converted output stay in temporary browser memory and are not uploaded to our server by these file tools.

Works on phone and desktop

The same page works in modern mobile and desktop browsers, with in-page playback before you download anything.

When it makes sense to leave lossless behind

FLAC keeps every bit of the original recording, which is perfect at home and awkward everywhere else: phones fill up, car systems refuse the format, and streaming a FLAC over mobile data is wasteful. An MP3 copy solves all three while the FLAC stays untouched as your master.

  • Fit far more albums on a phone or memory card.
  • Play your own recordings on hardware that lacks FLAC support.
  • Keep a light listening copy alongside the lossless archive.

Recommended settings for a FLAC library

For a collection you actually listen to, 256 or 320 kbps is the sensible range — the point of starting from lossless is to avoid stacking audible compression. Reserve 128 kbps for spoken-word material such as audiobooks or interviews.

Browser support note

FLAC decoding is built into current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. If a very old browser cannot read the file you will get a clear message immediately instead of a broken download.

FLAC to MP3 FAQs

Is quality lost converting FLAC to MP3?

Yes. MP3 uses lossy compression and discards audio data. The result depends on the source and selected bitrate.

Are album tags copied?

No. The MP3 is generated from the decoded audio, so titles and artwork are not carried over.

Can I convert a whole album at once?

Files are converted one at a time, but you can run them back to back without reloading the page.

Does my music get uploaded?

The selected media and output stay in temporary browser memory and are not uploaded by this file converter.

What about very high sample rates?

Support depends on whether the browser can decode the specific FLAC file. Unsupported files return an error.
